Tips For A Visitor Center Sister

BONUS POST

Being a visitor center sister is difficult. Point blank. I'm not going to tell you that life in the VC is easy because it's not.

Even if you're in a center where hardly anyone comes in during the week or if it's busy everyday, it's a challenge.

Missionaries out in the field think we are lazy but we are here to prove them wrong. Some things the field missionaries don't understand is that we work just as hard as they do if not harder. (:

We are the opposite of lazy. We tract when we aren't in the VC, give tours (lessons) to members and nonmembers in the VC, do our finding through Facebook, blog posts, chats and phone calls from mormon.org plus teach via email.

What to remember:
  • Members can still be taught and uplifted just as much as a nonmember
  • Challenge the members
  • Ask everyone for a referral using the guest cards
  • Tracting and street contacting is much easier when you have pass along cards with information about your center. It's an easy ice breaker.
  • Don't stress when you don't see the results of your work, other missionaries are baptizing the seeds you plant.
  • Be yourself! You are a visitor center sister and the VC needs your personality.
  • Work hard on chat, facebook or your blog if the VC is slow; baptisms are possible social media style!
  • DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT worry about gaining weight, VC sister or not. It's not that it's unavoidable but when you do gain weight don't worry about it. It's not worth it.
  • Laugh everyday
  • If you have Senior Couples in the VC with you be their friend but stay focused.
  • Help the missionaries in your in your mission by having them bring their investigators into the VC for a tour.
  • Know how to present the Christus in a way that lets your testimony shine.
  • Be on time!
  • Don't be afraid to talk to everyone that comes into the VC.
  • The missionary lingo will come eventually.
  • Take what you learn in the 12 week training program and apply it to the VC, as difficult as it may be.
  • Remember, you were valiant in the preexistence
You are chosen to serve in the Visitors Center for a reason. Elder Perry said "You are chosen to serve in the Visitor's Center by the light of Christ they see in your smiles and by the testimony of the atonement that they see in your eyes".
