There are many things that i have noticed about England that i might not have if i were just visiting. Their slang is so different and the men where suits that are crazy tight with shoes that seem to be a mile long.
Driving here is a whole different story... They are nice when they drive. They let people turn in front of them and they slow down for you when the roads are too tiny to get through. Being an American i sometimes get frustrated driving in a huge line of traffic going one way and someone is nice enough to let 3 cars turn in.
There are tons of people that walk EVERYWHERE. What is that? So weird right? Maybe just to an American.
The Subways (the sandwhich shop) here don't have choices of different cheeses... depressing i know. i love my provolone cheese but no. You get cheddar, and not like what you're thinking cheddar cheese to be. No sir. It's white. And the fact that there are no free refills is devastating let alone there is a max of 3 choices of soda. Woo!
So many things are different in this country it blows my mind but i love it. It really makes me realize how blessed i was back home to be able to drive to walmart on the right side of the road where i can buy everything in one place at the lowest prices with a subway in it where i can choose what kind of cheese i want on my sandwich with a free refill of more than 3 choices of soda.
When you get here make sure that you don't turn to food for
comfort... bad! (what i did) it's really hard not to at times because
it's the only familiar thing that you can go to.
Okay so maybe you would notice all of those things if you were just visiting but that's besides the point. I love England! There are many pluses to it as well. There are tons and tons of historical sites just in the tiny town that i live in and the southern part of England... Breathtaking. It amazes me that there are so many beautiful hills and fields everywhere i look.
Embrace the culture. British people they say are hard on the outside but once you hit the center they are just dreamy! the people here are really kind hearted once you get to know them. They will do everything they can for you.
Make sure you know how to eat with a fork and knife! This is CRUCIAL. We eat with proper manners here and sometimes it's difficult to pick it up. I had to force myself to learn during the first dinner appointment that we had and lets just say that it probably didn't go as well as i though it would have. (:
